The only thing I would modify is that recently released archives from the former Soviet Union indicate that KoDang was executed in October of 1950 after the U.N. Forces crossed the 38th dividing line & were heading north before the Chinese entered the War. So Kim Il Sung ordered all the political prisoners to be killed, so the U.N. would not have an alternative leadership to put into place. Please remember that the U.N. did indeed occupy & administer Pyongyang for sometime until the Chinese pushed them back south of the 38th line.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1232825159765940340.post-80809232378811449712014-04-01T17:52:33.096+02:002014-04-01T17:52:33.096+02:00Thank you for dropping by, Mr Gillis. Indeed, I do practice the pattern and as a resident in South Korea I find the associated politics disconcerting.

Interestingly, most people don't realize that the word "Juche" is not a Kim-coined word, but derives from the Japanese word "shukan / shutai". Also, the first constitution to include the word was the South Korean Yushin Constitution under the South Korean president Park Chung Hee.

However, as I mentioned, I have decided to reinterpret the name of the pattern literally, based on the hanja, namely "Mastering the body".

SooShimKwanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08864922377526465321noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1232825159765940340.post-62504455016046335672014-04-01T15:55:50.256+02:002014-04-01T15:55:50.256+02:00Good blog. You show how someone can reconcile the two names and the politics, while still showing the discomfort with saluting North Korean ideology at the end of each Ju-Che pattern. Thanks for writing the blog.
Alex Gillis, author of A Killing Arta.gillishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17911770142166361080noreply@blogger.com
