I do have the Korean condensed encyclopedia for sale, but because of their scarcity they are not cheap.Skryfblokhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00329458286217107784noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1232825159765940340.post-31712491921769849532018-12-11T20:44:51.806+02:002018-12-11T20:44:51.806+02:00I'm finding all these articles very interestin...I'm finding all these articles very interesting and helpful as I am currently learning how to read and write in Hangul because I want to go deeper into my studies of the encyclopedia. I am looking for a pdf copy of the condensed encyclopedia in Korean. I own the 15 volumes in English and the condensed version in Spanish. Could you please help me find the encyclopedia in korean? Is there a download option just like the 15 volumes? Or can you provide me with a link to buy one?

Greetings from ArgentinaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1232825159765940340.post-27072788024002884932012-05-19T17:40:09.704+02:002012-05-19T17:40:09.704+02:00It's like the Eastern preference for ambiguity...It's like the Eastern preference for ambiguity. TKD is both a Do in the Japanese sense and also another thing in a Korean sense... yeah, Westerners probably don't do things in that way.Ymar Sakarnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1232825159765940340.post-38129769269761864472011-06-23T17:20:53.499+02:002011-06-23T17:20:53.499+02:00So got the line I was referring to. In the Condensed Encyclopaedia it is on p 15. In Korean it readss: "이런 점이 태권도를 호신예술이라 부르는 리유의 하나이라 하겠다."

호신예술, literally translates as "self-defense art". This is quite interesting. He actually called Taekwon-Do the "art of self-defence" not the "martial art [무예] of self-defence." A subtle, but important, distinction.

Regards,
SLSooShimKwanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08864922377526465321noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1232825159765940340.post-31479927942955619752011-06-21T15:17:54.838+02:002011-06-21T15:17:54.838+02:00Hi,

Since I do not own a Condensed Encyclopaedia I do not generally use it as my reference resource. I see now that my use of quotation marks does indeed (wrongly) give that impression.

Instead I was referring to the "Definition of Taekwon-Do" section in Volume 1 of the ITF Encyclopaedia, specifically the line that says: "This is one of the reasons that Taekwon-Do is called an art of self-defence" (p. 21).

I did not read this line in Korean, but have been told that it says "hoshin-mooye" for "art of self-defence" by a Korean speaker. I have access to a Korean version of the textbook at my dojang and could go ascertain how that sentence is rendered in Korean.

Thank you for your interest and dropping by at Soo Shim Kwan.SooShimKwanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08864922377526465321noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1232825159765940340.post-68331002201086068612011-06-21T05:04:03.692+02:002011-06-21T05:04:03.692+02:00Very interesting comment about the Korean version ...Very interesting comment about the Korean version of the title of Gen.
